You’re invited to join in the synod from wherever you are!
Last October, Pope Francis launched a synod calling for all the people of God to discern together the call of the Holy Spirit in our Church. This synod was launched in October of 2021 and will culminate at the Assembly of Bishops in October of 2023. We are presently in the first phase of listening and discernment in local churches around the world. We are called to gather voices that are marginalized by present systems of authority and hierarchy, and to become a listening church in which the people journey together.
Discerning the path of the Church through all voices is a practice of nonviolence, restoration, and justice as each member of the Church’s body is held in dignity. Achieving that goal from where we are presently is an enormous undertaking, and cannot fully happen in the short space of time of this synod, but the synod is an important step in the process. Learning how to listen, hold, and honor so many perspectives is a new undertaking for all of humanity, and one that is necessary for humankind to learn. Through listening with care and discernment to each other’s experiences, we learn how to disarm, we learn how to dismantle racism and prejudice in our systems and deep within ourselves, we learn what we really do and do not need in our lives, we heal from trauma and walk with others that they may also heal, we reconcile our role in harm, and learn to welcome and care for one another. All of this is the work of Pax Christi.
We are conducting small group listening sessions over zoom. Please join us by registering!
If the session is full, please email [email protected] to be placed on a waiting list. We will be opening additional sessions. Feel free to send us info on your best available times.
